Risks
Probability is the likelihood a risk event occurs. Impact is the severity of its consequences. Together they determine the overall risk score. Learn more in probability and impact.
Close a risk when it has been fully mitigated, the event has occurred and been resolved, or the risk is no longer relevant. Always document the closure reason. See categories and status for details on risk lifecycle states.
Risk Companion analyses your project description, sector and configuration, then proposes relevant risks. Each suggested risk arrives with its own causes, effects and measures, and you review and select which ones to import. Use it to get past a blank register or to check for blind spots. Assessments
Single point works when you have high confidence in your estimates. Triangular estimation captures a range of outcomes and feeds into Monte Carlo simulation for better forecasting under uncertainty.
EMV (Expected Monetary Value) quantifies risk exposure by multiplying probability by impact. It is useful for contingency budgeting and comparing risks. See the full explanation in EMV and ETV.
Review high-priority risks weekly. Medium risks monthly. Low risks quarterly. Also reassess after significant project changes or external events.
Yes. A framework defines the probability and impact scales, the number of levels (three to six), the category names, reference values and how scores map onto the matrix. You configure your own rather than picking from a fixed list. Frameworks can be shared across projects and a different one can apply to each project phase. See settings and frameworks.
Bow-tie
Bow-tie analysis maps causes, prevention measures, the risk event, mitigation measures, and effects in a single diagram. It gives you a clear picture of how a risk develops and where your measures sit. Learn more in understanding bow-ties.
Open the bow-tie view for any risk. Click "Add Cause" on the left to add triggers, or "Add Effect" on the right to add effects. The diagram updates automatically.
Prevention measures sit between causes and the central event to reduce probability. Mitigation measures sit between the event and effects to reduce impact.
Projects
Sessions let your team brainstorm and capture risks together in real time. A facilitator runs the session while participants add, discuss, and vote on risks. See sessions and brainstorming for the full workflow.
Yes. Participants join through a shared link and a PIN, with no Risk Companion account and nothing to install. They suggest risks and upvote each other in real time, and the facilitator imports the best ones into the project register. This is how you get stakeholders and external partners into a workshop without provisioning users for them.
Health checks score your project across key risk dimensions and flag areas that need attention. They give you a quick snapshot of overall risk posture. Read more in health checks.
Access is role-based and every user holds one role per team, chosen from five. Administrators get full access including user management and settings; the other roles narrow down from there. Project-level permissions control who can view, edit and manage each project. See roles and permissions.
Technical
We use TLS encryption in transit, run automated daily backups, and apply role-based access control so users only see the data they are authorised for. Data is hosted in the EU by default and handled in line with GDPR. Read more on security.
Yes. Map your spreadsheet columns onto Risk Companion fields and import the register in one pass, so moving off a spreadsheet does not mean retyping it. You can export back out to Excel or CSV at any time for stakeholders who want it that way.
Yes. Export your risk register and measure register to Excel or CSV. Your current filters and column order are honoured in the exported file. All your data remains yours. See exports and reports.
You can filter the risk and measure registers by any field, combine filters, and reorder columns, and your view drives what an export contains. Saving named views and sharing them with your team is on the roadmap rather than available today. See custom views.
Yes. Risk Companion runs in the browser with no install, and mobile browsers on iOS and Android are supported, which is what makes joining a risk session from a phone on site practical. A large register is still easier to work with on a laptop.
